<a href="https://pre00.deviantart.net/aecf/th/pre/i/2016/064/9/5/hackerman_by_neutron_quasar-d9u0snv.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="559" height="400" src="https://pre00.deviantart.net/aecf/th/pre/i/2016/064/9/5/hackerman_by_neutron_quasar-d9u0snv.png" width="278" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: x-large; text-align: justify;">I </span><span style="text-align: justify;">asked nicely 1 million machines if they were my computer. That's the short answer. Now for the long one:</span><br />
<span style="text-align: justify;"><br /></span>
<span style="text-align: justify;">I was using ssh to remotely work on my home machine. I was out for few weeks and the IP address only changes every few months, so I thought I was safe.</span><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In reality it took less time for the IP to change. So I needed a plan...</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Since I didn't setup a dyndns, or had anyone who could to tell me the new IP, I had to hack it out!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Fortunately I found a a list of the IPs used by each ISP in Portugal.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="https://www.nirsoft.net/countryip/pt.html">https://www.nirsoft.net/countryip/pt.html</a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I then proceeded to fingerprint the machines. I knew my machine had port 3000 open, so I needed to find machines with port 3000 open</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;"><b>sudo nmap -p3000 --open 5.43.0-63.1-254 5.158.0-63.1-254 5.249.0-127.1-254 37.28.192-255.1-254 46.189.128-255.1-254 77.54.0-255.1-254 78.137.192-255.1-254 83.174.0-63.1-254 87.103.0-127.1-254 89.114-115.0-255.1-254 93.108.0-255.1-254 94.60-63.0-255.1-254 95.136.0-127.1-254 148.63.0-255.1-254 148.69.0-255.1-254 148.71.0-255.1-254 149.90.0-255.1-254 161.230.0-255.1-254 178.166.0-127.1-254 188.37.0-255.1-254 212.18.160-191.1-254 213.30.0-127.1-254 -oN nmap_output.txt</b></span></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I built this command that will analyse about ~1.000.000 IP addresses and figure out which have the port I want open, producing a list. This took about a day to complete.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It was then a matter of parsing the result. First I removed the RTT warning lines and got only the lines with IP addresses.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;"><b>grep -v RTT nmap_output.txt | grep report > without_errors.txt</b></span></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
producing a list like this:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
...</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Nmap scan report for 11.11.11.11.rev.vodafone.pt (11.11.11.11)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Nmap scan report for 22.22.22.22.rev.vodafone.pt (22.22.22.22)<br />
Nmap scan report for 33.33.33.33.rev.vodafone.pt (33.33.33.33)<br />
...<br />
<br />
I parsed this list to get just the IP addresses, using cut and a regex with sed.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;"><b>cat without_errors.txt | cut -d' ' -f6 | sed "s/(//" | sed "s/)//" > only_ips.txt</b></span></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
Producing a list like this<br />
<br />
...<br />
11.11.11.11<br />
22.22.22.22<br />
33.33.33.33<br />
...<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And now I finally had a list which I could try to login into:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;"><b>for i in $(cat </b></span><b style="font-family: "courier new", courier, monospace;">only_ips.txt</b><span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;"><b>);do ssh -o StrictHostKeyChecking=no -o BatchMode=yes -o ConnectTimeout=2 -p22 $i "echo $i";done 2> /dev/null</b></span><br />
<div>
<br /></div>
</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And TADAM! I found my new IP address.</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
You could also first refine your fingerprinted result by finding machines that have another port open that you know to be open.</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;"><b>nmap -iL only_ips.txt -p2000 --open</b></span></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<span style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">I am sure there would be more </span>efficient<span style="font-family: inherit;"> ways to do this, but I hope this can be useful to someone. :)</span></span>fullmooninuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04655710914334599493noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2990223892208450985.post-32974572301578843282016-04-07T01:47:00.000+01:002016-04-09T02:32:42.467+01:00Ubuntu gaming. Make it faster. Fix for (steam) games being too slow on Ubuntu.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcdXsoWh0mboX9FJM0pBjds79LXMPvjpTPbYN60IVVGVd8kIiMG5LlTAKL5_V-ailHmHGIA-dE4BndCH6yYXjDMVbbEXhyXXM6Q0dgCPjvSMMLdge9ZAdM2ELMdgrS7vEq_JOoJxpwNVU/s1600/linux-games.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="192" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcdXsoWh0mboX9FJM0pBjds79LXMPvjpTPbYN60IVVGVd8kIiMG5LlTAKL5_V-ailHmHGIA-dE4BndCH6yYXjDMVbbEXhyXXM6Q0dgCPjvSMMLdge9ZAdM2ELMdgrS7vEq_JOoJxpwNVU/s320/linux-games.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: x-large;">F</span>eeling sad because your laptop is not fast enough to play Steam games on Ubuntu? Tried to use the 3rd party graphic card drivers and didn't feel any difference? Worry not, here's how to definitely improve game performance.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Getting ready</b>: you should probably uninstall all third party drivers and reboot. Make sure you recently did an <span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">apt-get update</span> and <span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">dist-upgrade</span>.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<h4 style="text-align: justify;">
Update the kernel.</h4>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Even with <b><span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">apt-get dist-upgrade</span></b>, the kernel will not be updated to the latest available. In Linux, hardware support comes mostly from the kernel, and Ubuntu's kernel is way behind the main kernel branch. This is for stability and safety reasons. But you're not after stability, you want to get usage out of hardware. Update that kernel. Here's how:<br />
<a href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds">https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds</a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This step is basically just finding, downloading and installing 3 or 4 .deb files. Easy. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I would recommend rebooting after this step.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Do <b><span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">uname -r</span></b> before and after this step to confirm the new kernel version is in use.<br />
<br />
<h4>
Get the latest xorg. </h4>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Instructions here. <a href="https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ubuntu/ppa">https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ubuntu/ppa</a>. After adding this ppa you should do another <span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">apt-get update</span> and <span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">dist-upgrade</span> .</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
What we are doing here is getting the latest display server.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<h4 style="text-align: justify;">
Test it out. </h4>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It should probably be faster now. If you want, you can also try and go back to using the third party graphic/aditional driver to see if it makes things faster, now that you are using a more recent kernel. I didn't do this, but hey, experiment. :)<br /><br />
<br />
Note: I eventually tried this out. fglrx (ATI driver) for example needs older kernel versions. Careful then.</div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAHtKpDgW8iGulpSL33pXnkQiAeXpftTEcs3ZHasfVGZkCovk_2dsCIFXnUmPp8vNw-iqCeu3l9_EcgsPeFzTgIEg8ellcAdL0xx8vGatG50UIKvc_bIMSf7ikqQUrYvepIM4jWclXJic/s1600/microphone-1172260_960_720.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="204" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAHtKpDgW8iGulpSL33pXnkQiAeXpftTEcs3ZHasfVGZkCovk_2dsCIFXnUmPp8vNw-iqCeu3l9_EcgsPeFzTgIEg8ellcAdL0xx8vGatG50UIKvc_bIMSf7ikqQUrYvepIM4jWclXJic/s320/microphone-1172260_960_720.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;">P</span>ara fazer isto basta ter o VLC Player instalado.<br />
<br />
Vai-se fazer:<br />
<br />
<b>File-> Stream</b><br />
<br />
<br />
Clicar em <b>stream</b><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<b>http://localhost:7777/radio.ogg</b><br />
<br />
Para abrir externamente usar o ip externo em vez de <i>localhost</i> (fazer google: "what's my ip").<br />
<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjG8kro5jCOj6JqeGqOW88ZWdqII5PQXCsC8B8gjkKkVQDUssGweudz8RTJyixROq5p-9ybtNuacmX54Om2zPL5s4PcNISay_DzjUyX3Bq1jZsKpeXuce_Dmq41gjw-H_KYci_QBGpn7gU/s1600/16899742823_4229dff888_z.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjG8kro5jCOj6JqeGqOW88ZWdqII5PQXCsC8B8gjkKkVQDUssGweudz8RTJyixROq5p-9ybtNuacmX54Om2zPL5s4PcNISay_DzjUyX3Bq1jZsKpeXuce_Dmq41gjw-H_KYci_QBGpn7gU/s320/16899742823_4229dff888_z.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>Versão rápida:</b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">mp3gain -m 100 -k -r path_to_music_here.mp3 && ffmpeg -loop 1 -framerate 2 -i path_to_image_here.jpg -i path_to_music_here.mp3 -c:v libx264 -preset medium -tune stillimage -crf 18 -c:a copy -shortest -pix_fmt yuv420p ~/output.mkv</span></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
E fazer upload do output para o youtube.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>Versão extensa:</b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
O <b>ffmpeg</b> é que cria o vídeo. O site do <b>ffmpeg</b> é <a href="https://ffmpeg.org/">https://ffmpeg.org</a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Se os links abaixo tiverem partidos, tentar procurar no site oficial pelas localizações actuais.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-size: small;"><i>Instalar o ffmpeg na sua versão mais recente:</i></span></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="https://ffmpeg.org/download.html">https://ffmpeg.org/download.html</a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><i>Instalar o mp3gain:</i></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Pode-se instalar o pacote com <b>apt-get</b> ou sacar o <b>.deb</b>:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><i>Escolher a combinação audio imagem:</i></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><i>Normalizar o ficheiro audio:</i></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">mp3gain -m 100 -k -r path_to_music_here.mp3</span></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><i>Criar o ficheiro vídeo:</i></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Correr o seguinte comando:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">ffmpeg
-loop 1 -framerate 2 -i path_to_image_here.jpg -i
path_to_music_here.mp3 -c:v libx264 -preset medium -tune stillimage -crf
18 -c:a copy -shortest -pix_fmt yuv420p ~/output.mkv</span></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

Chapter Three: I'm Confused (Jun 2015)<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIyQ7WvzcP7mMWbMV0xPAvwmDaDBdzcLNwMIpoQq1Wwn5vLfJMONDdjJ6m7Fzqdi_pbFcBXD7kKpziDuXeitbG1DIAkKFR3JX-UgwetGQ-KXVmUWqYrJfUkUtc95vbolBHfUanx38QbfY/s1600/cisoun-tux-kenny-2198.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIyQ7WvzcP7mMWbMV0xPAvwmDaDBdzcLNwMIpoQq1Wwn5vLfJMONDdjJ6m7Fzqdi_pbFcBXD7kKpziDuXeitbG1DIAkKFR3JX-UgwetGQ-KXVmUWqYrJfUkUtc95vbolBHfUanx38QbfY/s320/cisoun-tux-kenny-2198.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: x-large;">H</span>ere's a list of misc stuff, more directed to confused Windows users.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">
A very basic Linux introduction for Windows users.</h3>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
On Linux everything is a file. On Windows you are used to when opening the file explorer, to see the root as the partitions. And go from there. In Linux not so. Partitions are part of the main directory structure. But that directory structure is always the same. This can lead to some confusion, but you know *shrugs*. On Windows you got random file locations on different machines with different disks/partitions. Not so on Linux. You'll find the stuff where you expect to find it, and then have to figure out where it is physically. On Windows, a file's logical location is more random and a file's physical location more evident.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
On Linux <i>.exe</i> doesn't mean anything. Executable is a property a file can have. Any file can be executable. The system you have (<b>xfce, lxde, gnome</b>) tries to guess what the file is based on the extension. But being executable is not related to the extension. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Easiest way to find cool Linux software to try out is to <b>Google</b> of course. But the fun way is to use <b>Synaptic</b>! Search it and be amazed.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">
How to install stuff without using the Software Center/Synaptic</h3>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
To install stuff via command line is sometimes the easiest <span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">sudo apt-get install</span> <span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">something</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
You can use the tab key to figure out the name of what you want to install. If you want to install something from the web, download the .deb file and install it with <span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">sudo dpkg -i file.deb</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;"></span>If installation involves running a file you have to go to it's location and do <span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">./filename</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But sometimes the file is not executable, so you have to do <span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">chmod +x filename</span> first.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">
How to play windows games and run windows applications on Linux</h3>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Easiest way to install and run windows stuff is an app called <span style="color: #38761d;"><b>playonlinux</b></span>. It supports loads of stuff. Install like any other app and check out the <a href="https://www.playonlinux.com/en/" target="_blank">website</a> for the supported stuff. The way it works: it makes a virtual disk with libraries to run your windows app in it, and it runs the windows installer inside that. It also has a way to install additional windows stuff inside, kinda like the way synaptic works. So you can install stuff like .net framework, directx, etc. If your app doesn't run you usually install some of that stuff and it starts running.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
For example, there was a windows game I couldn't play online and all I did was install directplay in it's virtual drive, and then it started allowing online play :)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
If you come from windows and have another question or something that confused you, post it on the comments, and I'll add it here!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>

Chapter Two: Making It All Work Better (Jun 2015)<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: x-large;">H</span>owdy partner!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This here is chapter two. If you are looking for chapter one, <a href="http://fullmooninu.blogspot.pt/2014/01/linux-adventures-chatper-one-to-pick.html">here</a> ya go.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
If not, let's continue.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So you got yourself a brand new installation of Linux. If you went along with the suggestion, you have <span style="color: #3d85c6;"><b>Lubuntu</b></span>. This guide assumes you did at least picked something similar to <b><span style="color: #3d85c6;">Lubuntu</span></b>. If you didn't, good for you. This guide may still help you, but you will probably need more help. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Also, this guide assumes the machine is connected to the internet . If your wireless card is not working on Linux, this guide can help you. But you will still need to get stuff from the internet, either by connecting a cable or using another computer.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So what you should know?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Well, now I could teach you the basic stuff, or just go ahead and try to finish the installation. Or... do both at the same time. Bad for referencing, good for learning and that's what I am going to do.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So, let's finish the installation. Graphical interfaces are fine, but you need to know that sometimes typing the stuff you want is faster. And also, that most programs exist as command lines before existing as graphical interfaces.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #38761d;"> </span></div>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #38761d;">Terminal!</span><span style="color: #38761d;"></span></h3>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Let's open a terminal. You can look for it in the <b>start menu</b>, (the windows key (called <i>super key</i> in Linux) won't work for that, use either <b>Ctrl+Esc</b> for the <b>start menu</b>) or... just click on the start menu with your mouse? :D</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I don't want you to start by getting annoyed that the super/windows key does not work on Linux. The <i>super</i> key does work and does some cool stuff. Here, a <a href="https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/Keyboard" target="_blank">quick reference</a> you might want to browse through.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Back to how to open the terminal, you can also search for it by calling the run, <b>Alt+F2</b>, and type stuff to find what you want. Or you can just use the fastest method besides creating a shortcut icon: <b>Ctrl+Alt+T</b>.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Done? A <b>terminal</b> should be open and ready to receive input.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjahqmlnB9Mt6Cb3Ck4w-Gp5Gf3IAwvKy1ybJfHRVFYEHgEvQdZUluZSFcR8YveSb50CSP8CTfCW_alnS5brWj9_8wTxRXepTUgIOK9CTmK51yz-w5hmUzhI-lwyT_Tn9fvtu9Vi21UmrI/s1600/linux-terminal-on-ubuntu.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="260" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjahqmlnB9Mt6Cb3Ck4w-Gp5Gf3IAwvKy1ybJfHRVFYEHgEvQdZUluZSFcR8YveSb50CSP8CTfCW_alnS5brWj9_8wTxRXepTUgIOK9CTmK51yz-w5hmUzhI-lwyT_Tn9fvtu9Vi21UmrI/s640/linux-terminal-on-ubuntu.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
One of the main advantages that Linux can have is the centralized updating system. This means that by using large online repositories, not only can you keep Linux updated, it will update the software you have installed, and the drivers you have installed. The only care you'll have to take is to install stuff from within the updating system, instead of downloading it and installing like you did in Windows (but you can do that too, of course).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We'll get there. Now, since we are finishing the installation, you should type this:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;"><b>sudo apt-get update</b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
and when that finishes:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;"><b>sudo apt-get dist-upgrade</b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><b>sudo</b></span> means you are giving permission for the system to alter itself, which is necessary in this case. Everytime you do <b>sudo</b> you have to input your password.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This is what makes <b>linux</b> more virus proof. System changing stuff can't really happen without <b>linux</b> ask you for permission. The price to pay is having to input your password a lot.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>apt-get</b> is an application for installing stuff and updating the system.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>dist-upgrade</b> is an instruction for <b>apt-get</b> and it's telling it to upgrade everything. It's a more powerful (and some people say dangerous) form of upgrade, as in <b>apt-get upgrade</b>. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
A tip: on a terminal you can use the <b>Tab</b> key to auto-complete as you type: try it, it's self explanatory.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So, you just formatted the machine and already are downloading ~300MB of updates? You betcha!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Continue only when the updates finish. Because you can't be updating the operating system from two sources at the same time.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="color: #38761d;">Language support and restricted-extras!</span></b></h3>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">
Now, go to <b>Start menu->preferences->Language Support</b></h3>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It will complain that Language Support is not fully installed. Why? I dunno, but just install it. Seems like a general <span style="color: #b45f06;"><b>Ubuntu</b></span> annoyance. It will ask for your password after a while. And won't work but also won't complain if you are not online. Install any other languages you need. Check the regional format tab to see if it's the one you want.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Still not done. Now, you should go to the <b><span style="color: #3d85c6;">Lubuntu</span></b> Software Center. I won't tell you where it is, find it, it's easy. There you'll find the <i>restricted-extras</i> and install them. These are some non-free <b>codecs</b> and some other stuff you probably want to have.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We done?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Nope, drivers.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="color: #38761d;"> </span></b></div>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="color: #38761d;">Drivers!</span></b></h3>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
If you are unlucky, stuff like your wireless card will still not be working. Go to<b> Software Updater</b> on the start menu, click on settings and fumble your way to the "<b>Additional Drivers</b>" tab. This thing is funny 'cause it won't ask for your password, and absolutely needs you to be online, but won't complain about you not being online, just fail silently. Also it takes a while to load but doesn't tell you how long.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Still, see the <b>driver</b> you need? If yes, try to install it. If not, you might want to install stuff later, so remember where this is. Some <b>graphic drivers</b> are better than the default free ones, and result in better graphics.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Careful now: <b>drivers</b> seem to be somewhat different from other normal packages that you can install using the software center or the <b>apt-get</b>. Why is this important? Because, if you manually download and install a <b>driver</b> from a website, while having another <b>driver</b> for that same <b>device</b> installed, you'll probably break your system somewhat (but not entirely: <b>Linux</b> is resilient).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
If you didn't find the driver you need inside the Software Updater, you should use the <b>Synaptic Package Manager</b>. Which is kind of the real thing that let's you install and update your system. It's the graphical interface that the grandfather of <b><span style="color: #3d85c6;">Lubuntu</span></b>, <b><span style="color: #0b5394;">Debian</span></b>, uses to install and update software. So you can expect it to be more powerful and lean, and a bit more overwhelming for newbies.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And guess what, except for the powerful <b>dist-upgrade</b> command, everything we did until now could have been done inside Synaptic. Welcome to Linux.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Inside Synaptic you should go to <b>Settings->Repositories</b>. On the first tab make sure everything is selected. Leave the source stuff as it is. On the second tab make sure<i> <b>Canonical Partners</b></i> is selected. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgqwXDa8PbLbPH3MjW_MspvDyU1qeFi5OF9ay5PgdvSuMaS9u8ZMYIMJy8_kGwB0Fp5DC8pb9hEyQHlWXJdfBlmMLg1jjlFVq3MNoQPlb8Q4XbK46lu3eC3M7cDu2yKUYw5UqZopt0Ou4/s1600/Screenshot+-+15-06-2015+-+04%253A42%253A34.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="328" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgqwXDa8PbLbPH3MjW_MspvDyU1qeFi5OF9ay5PgdvSuMaS9u8ZMYIMJy8_kGwB0Fp5DC8pb9hEyQHlWXJdfBlmMLg1jjlFVq3MNoQPlb8Q4XbK46lu3eC3M7cDu2yKUYw5UqZopt0Ou4/s400/Screenshot+-+15-06-2015+-+04%253A42%253A34.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhkUDXYJuD1v0UOlLdyLT7TUTNtTe_9shsrhqBl-YYGNeSVuj-lHcxRpzXAAehPF6J2wjrz5tp2luUEDw4YkC_0bormWs6pNJivKyuD_OTS0WgAoiDIb8eyA09_dEjaeWJO40VulEXV1o/s1600/Screenshot+-+15-06-2015+-+04%253A43%253A24.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="328" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhkUDXYJuD1v0UOlLdyLT7TUTNtTe_9shsrhqBl-YYGNeSVuj-lHcxRpzXAAehPF6J2wjrz5tp2luUEDw4YkC_0bormWs6pNJivKyuD_OTS0WgAoiDIb8eyA09_dEjaeWJO40VulEXV1o/s400/Screenshot+-+15-06-2015+-+04%253A43%253A24.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
If you are perceptive, you can see that this screen is the same as the "<i>Settings</i>" screen in the <b>Software Updater</b> we used earlier. I could just have brought you here directly, but I'm trying to show you what you should expect from Linux: lots of ways of doing the same thing.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Close the repositories, and click on reload. This is the equivalent to the sudo <b>apt-get update</b> command we used earlier.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
After it finishes fetching the available stuff, you can use the search inside <b>Synaptic</b> to try and find the appropriate driver for your wi-fi card. For example, mine was a Broadcom, with the codename BCM, so I just searched for bcm and installed a bunch of stuff that seemed like it would make it. And BAM! it worked!(maybe after a reboot and/or going back to the additional drivers screen)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Funny thing, my Broadcom <b>wireless card</b> was working without any additional drivers. But it got way better reception after I found and installed its driver.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Again, try to install everything you can from inside Linux instead of downloading. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Are we done? Yes. Yes we are.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'll now write the short-form protocol that one should take to finish a Ubuntu-type installation:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="color: #38761d;">Short-form:</span></b> </h3>
<ol style="text-align: justify;">
<li><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Go to <b>Synaptic Package Manager</b></span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Go to the menu <i>repositories</i>, select all available repositories (except for source code and physical media ones). Let it update if it wants to. Close <b>Synaptic</b></span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Open a <b>terminal</b> and type:<span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;"> sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade</span> . Let it finish. Close terminal</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Go to <b><i>Language Support</i></b>, it will complain that something is missing, let it install it. Install other Languages. Check regional settings. Close <b><i>Language Support</i></b>.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Go to <b>Synaptic Package Manager</b>. You may need to install it first with <span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">sudo apt-get install synaptic<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span></span></span><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">In the repositories screen, switch to the <i>additional drivers</i> tab. Wait for it to populate.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Select and install the drivers you want</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">If a driver you need is missing from the additional drivers list, try to figure out the brand and model of the device. Go back to Synaptic and usually all you have to do is search for the model or brand name or codename, and the driver packages will show up. Install them. You may have to go back to the additional drivers screen to really install the driver</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Find and install your <b>distro</b>'s <i>restricted-extras</i> package (example: <i>lubuntu-restricted-extras</i>)<b></b></span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Close everything and reboot</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">You might want repeat only step 3) at this time, and once a week in the future</span></li>
</ol>
<div style="text-align: right;">

"Healthy and fast Windows for the lazy man." <div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgp0yf4pFb8Afg83WRsZ0ChattFmsPvnioHi2G6sjczNho3kCAFVNy2wQwHIylky-ddF4TRpwZeC2nx7Gz78xaes0mnke2-NfYdYpaog4192NMGkk07CNX9fA2rTuY0zGjCXakCjJQ-jfE/s1600/microsoft-windows-512.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgp0yf4pFb8Afg83WRsZ0ChattFmsPvnioHi2G6sjczNho3kCAFVNy2wQwHIylky-ddF4TRpwZeC2nx7Gz78xaes0mnke2-NfYdYpaog4192NMGkk07CNX9fA2rTuY0zGjCXakCjJQ-jfE/s320/microsoft-windows-512.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: x-large;">Y</span>ou got your Windows.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
You need to make it faster and harder to break down.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Here's what you need to keep in mind.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Use windows update, a lot, to keep your system up to date. But don't use it to update the drivers.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Use something like Drivermax or Slimdrivers to update your drivers. This type of software is usually not free, but these two have really good free functionalities.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Use a good program to clean the registry and compact it too if you have the time. I recommend JV16. It's not freeware but has a good trial.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Defragment your mechanical hardisk, don't defrag your non-mechanical hard disks.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Disable all the pretty stuff. Switch to the classic theme. Then go to control panel system and disable all visual effects (except for smooth fonts).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
When gaming, consider using a game booster. I now recommend Wise Game Booster.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Other good tips for a fast machine.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
If you are careful you don't need a real-time antivirus. Just get an on-demand free one, like ClamWinAV. An antivirus really slows down a system. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Consider switching your Windows to a Lite version of Windows. These are custom made, leaner versions of windows, that are around the web.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Update your BIOS or UEFI . Learn how to from the motherboard/laptop manufacturer and/or Google. This is dangerous, ask a friend if you can.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Disable all the devices (ex: IRQs) and any other stuff you don't need in the BIOS.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
If you know for sure what type of hardware you have, tell the BIOS what it is, instead of letting the BIOS do the work (sometimes wrongly).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
If you gonna try overclocking your machine make sure you have good ventilation. Overclocking sometimes is really worth it although a bit dangerous.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
If your machine is slow one of the easiest ways to upgrade is to buy more memory for it, or sometimes a bigger hard disk or a SSD disk. Check if you need it and can. Buying a newer graphic card is also an option.<br />
<br />
If all of these things don't help you even after formatting your machine, then you need a new computer.<br />
<br />
Resumed steps:<br />
<div>
<ul>
<li>Updated BIOS/UEFI </li>
<li>Optimized BIOS/UEFI settings</li>
<li>Updated OS</li>
<li>Updated drivers</li>
<li>Optimized OS settings</li>
<li>Registry cleaner/compacter</li>
<li>Game booster</li>
</ul>

Chapter One: to Pick and to Install (Jun 2015)<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: x-large;">H</span>allo there!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This here two-part post will describe my current attempt at successfully discarding all my power-user knowledge of Windows and becoming a successful Linux guy.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Part one is about picking and installing. If you already did this, just go to part two, it's where the juice is.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So, ok! Here we go!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #38761d;">Picking your distro! </span></h3>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #38761d;"> </span> </h3>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Linux is cool cause you can see more of the stuff working, like a car that can turns its parts transparent whenever you want. "Whenever" is the key word for me. You may preach all you want, it still requires a bit too much information for Linux to be fun to use. And like all machines, it lies to you.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It starts with picking your Linux flavor. Too much choice! Not only that, there's also the legions of fanboys and guys that just want to belong to a club or show off their arbitrary skillzs. Eish... :(</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
From much reading I can now say the good easy and safe distros for newbies are <b><span style="color: #cc0000;">Fedora</span></b>, <b><span style="color: #0b5394;">Debian</span></b>, <b><span style="color: #38761d;">openSuse</span></b>, and maybe <b><span style="color: #351c75;">Mageia</span></b>. You then can pick variations of them, like <b><span style="color: #b45f06;">Ubuntu</span></b>, <b><span style="color: #6aa84f;">Mint</span></b> or whatnot. Which in turn can have variations, like <span style="color: #3d85c6;"><b>Lubuntu</b></span>, <b>Xubuntu</b>. And then sometimes you can pick the graphical environment you want: <i>Gnome</i>, <i>XFCE</i>, <i>LXDE</i>.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8cFqtDwvwXG2MTEjTCNRiv_708-xWYlEesptsi4Tgss6uFQbtJbltCRa11LJlUSJ_yT6ITIxyV4aBLr_AstUyEYpZxKWfztAAPf2c5AB1AdBaJ7fkOhXOJQ0xtJaolj__YPrmFrlWpoQ/s1600/Tux-Linux-Distros-800x800.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img alt="lots of linuxes" border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8cFqtDwvwXG2MTEjTCNRiv_708-xWYlEesptsi4Tgss6uFQbtJbltCRa11LJlUSJ_yT6ITIxyV4aBLr_AstUyEYpZxKWfztAAPf2c5AB1AdBaJ7fkOhXOJQ0xtJaolj__YPrmFrlWpoQ/s1600/Tux-Linux-Distros-800x800.jpg" title="lots of linuxes" width="200" /></a>So much choice. So, how to chose? Best way to chose, pick what your friends are using. Second best way to chose, pick the one that works for what you are going to use.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Most of my friends don't like Linux. I want to use <b>Steam</b>, some Windows applications and <b>games</b>, have good <b>driver</b> support, have a large user-base to draw <b>knowledge</b> from, lots of <b>applications</b> to try and use.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Also, I wanted a light graphical interface, but a non-distro specific one, so that I can eventually try other distros but keep the same interface.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So, until <b>SteamOS</b> stops being Beta, the logical choice would be <b><span style="color: #b45f06;">Ubuntu LTS</span></b> (long term, which usually means that it's a bit last year) and is the only distro officially supported by <b>Steam</b>. But yeah, I was not gonna do that. So instead, by looking <i>around</i> the logical choice I found the most recent <b><span style="color: #3d85c6;">Lubuntu</span></b>. And if it works: close enough.</div>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #38761d;">Installing your distro!</span></h3>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Installing Linux? Easy.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
If you are on windows just Google the appropriate website. Choose between the 32bit or the 64bit version (32bit if you have 4GiB or less memory, else 64bit). Then you need to put that file you got into a pen that you can boot from. For that you need software. If you are on Windows use the <a href="http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/" target="_blank">universal usb installer</a>. On Linux there's a bunch of stuff, but for example, the Ubuntu family has its own way to do this, you can run the Usb Creator, or <b>usb-creator-gtk</b>.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So now you boot from the pen, if you don't know how to do this, ask a friend to do it. But it usually involves just pressing a key on the keyboard during computer startup and/or changing a setting inside the BIOS.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
When you enter the installation, make sure you pick all the optional stuff. It doesn't hurt to have, it can hurt not to have.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The only part that can be problematic if you take the custom path is the partitioning. I will now show my way of creating things for a single boot system (this means no Windows). Skip this step if it seems complicated and just select one of the default installation paths.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

the partition I dedicate to the home folder gives me the ability to keep my stuff when I format (which on a non LTS version of Linux should be about once every 6 months). Speaking in Windows terms: it's like I reserved a special place in the hard disk for the My Documents folder, so I can upgrade easily and keep all my stuff.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
If you want to take it slow and keep Windows, you should plan ahead when you install Windows and leave some space on your disk for Linux. And then you can install Linux on that empty space.</div>

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>

<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
So here's what I use<br />
<br />
Delete duplicates:<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">fdupes -r -d -N .</span></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
Delete empty directories:<br />
<div>
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><br /></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">find -type d -empty | while read line ; do rm -rf "$line" ; done</span><br />
<br />
Clean filenames:<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">detox -r *</span><br />
<br />
The second thing you should do is try to use Music Brainz or something paid like SongKong or Jaikoz to identify your songs and fix the metadata.<br />
<br />
I use Jaikoz and I haven't figured out how to use Jaikoz to organize file names and directories properly.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
(this replaces spaces with underscores, which I don't like much, but other than that it's great as it tries to replace non ascii with ascii equivalent.)<br />
<br />
<br />
<b style="background-color: #f4cccc;">FROM BELOW HERE IT'S INFO I DON'T USE ANYMORE, AS I NOW USE LINUX</b><br />
<br />
If you feel like organizing all those
music files on your computer, this article is for you.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
I'm gonna assume you have a certain
level of tech knowledge.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
You need to know only simple stuff. If
you already know that filenames have extensions (“.mp3”, “.ogg”)
and that Windows hides those extensions from users by default, but
that Windows and other operating systems actually need those
extensions to know how to open files, then you'll have no problems
and I'm sorry to have bothered you here. If not, good luck, you'll
probably need it.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
I'm going to try to write an article
that won't grow old, so even tho I will give examples of software you
might want to try for each function, I will always describe the
purpose of things, so you can look for yourself for alternatives to
the software I'll be using.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
The things that you have to worry about
are basically the music file itself, the metadata, and the data.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
The file is the location of the file
(its directory) and the filename.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
The medata is all the information about
the file. This includes stuff like album, year, genre, but also can
include the lyrics and the nice album art picture.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
The data is the music data itself. This
is the mp3, ogg, wma, flac sound information, and also, the
information of how it was encoded (encoder, encoding quality,
encoding type, etc)</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
To fix the filenames means organizing
the files themselves, putting them in a nice directory structure so
you don't have to dig all around your hard drive, and changing the
filenames to something that easily identifies the music within, so
you can move the file around without any problems, like having to
open it to identify it.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
To fix the metadata means fixing what
you get to know when you open a sound file in an adequate player.
Ideally, with good metadata, even without internet, you get to know
mostly everything about the file. It also helps a lot when you are
creating mixes in adequate software. To fix this requires adequate
software that is capable of identifying a track automatically, or,
manual work on your part to identify the tracks from an online
repository. This is the information that is used to fix the
filenames.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
To fix the data. If you are not looking
to improve the quality of your tracks, you shouldn't worry about
this. But if your song collection has some old files in it, you
should give this some attention, as old free encoders were really
bad. Files with less than 160kpbs are a big no-no for anyone that
listens to a lot of music and can tell the difference. And a lot of
people are replacing their collection with lossless FLAC files. Truth
be told about this, even tho a FLAC file is lossless, it is lossless
in reference to the CD version. And the CD quality is usually not on
par with the actual studio recording. That's something to remember.
The data is what is used to identify the song, either by you or by
adequate software, to get the metadata.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
So, if you were paying attention, you
will have understood two things.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
The first thing is that we don't
organize a music collection for the sake of organizing. Organizing is
supposed to make the thing more enjoyable and easy to use.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
The second thing is that it's a cyclic
process, you need the music data to then get the metadata to then
create a nice file structure. After you have that you might want to
look into the music data again to see if you have any bad quality
files. And so it starts over again (although in a smaller scale).</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Now that we have the concepts of what
we are trying to do, we have to look at our collection.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
It's probably a bit organized already.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
The first question is. Do you have
strong preferences regarding directory and filename structure?</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
This is tricky. You see, the music
download scene has its own naming scheme. Usually it goes like,</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
artistName\ artistAlbum\ trackNumber. –
trackTitle</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
an example:</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Sia\Best of..\10. Bring Night.mp3</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
See that? I personally don't like that
very much. Cause if just copy a few songs from a few albums to make
myself a mix, I wont know what I'm looking at. And I won't be able to
sort out the files by artist.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
So yeah, what I prefer is:
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
artistName\artistAlbum\artistName
trackNumber trackTitle</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
so it becomes</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Sia\Best of...\Sia 10 Bring Night.mp3</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Now I can copy that file around, and
I'll always know what that file is. Plus, it will still be sorted
neatly inside the album directory. It will also be sorted neatly
inside a mix directory. Bonus for elegance.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
But, what if you already have a
directory with a lot of songs by different artists? If you use this
organizing method you'll end up with too many album directories with
only one song, and artist directories with only one album with only
one song. That looks nasty to me.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
So, when I only have one song from an
artist it goes to the my _misc directory</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
_misc\artistName trackNumber trackTitle</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
like so</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
_misc\Ladytron 06 Blue Jeans</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
But, if I have a couple songs an album,
I'll just keep them in the artist folder, like so</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
artistName\artistName trackNumber
trackTitle</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Deftones\Deftones 04 Change</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Notice that this way you can have
albums directories and music files inside the artist directory.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
This is all just a suggestion. What you
have when you get an .mp3 directory from the web, is usually good
enough. And unless you want to be troubled to mess in settings,
organizing software creates a lot of one file folders by default.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Summarizing, the main ideas in
organizing music filenames:</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
- all the songs by the same artist will
be in the same place;</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
- the song file can be moved around and
you can know where it belongs in the structure, just by reading the
filename;</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
If you have hundreds of artists in your
collection you could organize your artists by genre or decade or
whatever, but I advise against it. Just use a Music Library software,
like Media Monkey, or good old MusicIP.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
So we now have an end result in mind.
To get to that we need to correct the metadata. To easily correct the
medata the easiest and most error-free way is to use something called
audio fingerprinting.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Audio fingeprinting is a process of
identifying a track from the sound that it generates. So you can have
different encodes of the same track generating the same fingerprint.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
This is extremely nice, because this
way you can just compare the fingerprints of your tracks to an online
library and get all the metadata you need. Thankfully there exists
some freeware that does exactly this. MusicBrainz is the most famous.
But I still prefer the swiss army knife that is MusicIP.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Just open it, add your songs, wait for
it to fingerprint them, and click on the “Fix Tags” button. You
can and should go to the preferences to tell it what tags you want to
be fixed (usually just pick all of them in their simplified forms).</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
If you have any troubles, I made a wiki
from the MusicIP manual.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
The software that does the audio
fingerprinting usually has a file renaming / restructuring function
that is easy to use. It just changes the filename and directory
according to the metadata, to some general structure that you define.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
One Very Important Note: There are lots
of rare songs that wont be identified, and won't have metadata in
them. If you apply this proccess to them, it will change their
filename into something empty, and sometimes you will stop knowing
anything about the song. I've had this happen to a few asian songs).
A solution is to edit metadata yourself. It's always best to have at
least basic metadata in all your files.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
A note about Unicode. Filenames that
have non-english characters in them will present some problems
sometimes. For example, this is MusicIP's weakness. It supports
unicode, but not in</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
filenames. My advice is, if you have
the option, to romanize when you can.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Software like Jaikoz, although it's not
free, has no problem with unicode. Also, Jaikoz is really good, it
will get you the lyrics, the album art and whatnot, and the best part
about is that it tries to use all of the free services available to
accomplish its fingerprinting. It's the best I know of, right now.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Summarizing, to correct metadata you
need internet and an audio fingerprinting software. Then you use that
fingerprint to retrieve the metadata.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
You can use metadata to correct
filenames / file structure. When doing this, be careful about
non-english characters in your metadata and be very careful about
auto-correcting files without any metadata.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
If you followed through this until now,
you already have the knowledge to get an organized music collection.
Congratulations.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Now for the bonus rounds.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Corrupted files and Duplicates.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Corrupted files. Corrupted files are a
bit tricky. Software that doesn't support unicode will report files
as being corrrupted, so don't trust those. Also, there's plenty of
software that does this, but with the negative side of being filetype
specific. MusicIP for example, reports as corrupt, songs that are too
short. Anyway, the mission is simple, find and delete, and possibly
replace with a good version.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Duplicates are easy, just find files
with the same fingerprint. Audio fingerprinting software usually has
a function such as this. Don't trust software that uses
filename/metadata to find duplicates. Another important note,
remember to delete the files with the worst quality. A good rule is
to delete the one with the least kpbs. Although there is a lot to be
said about quality.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Quality</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Quality is an interesting subject. If
you use software like Encspot on your collection you will find which
files were created using what encoder. It will also tell you about
the relative quality of those files. It's a bit dated and .mp3
oriented, so you might want to look into alternatives.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
But it's as simple as this. Better
encoding quality, up to a certain quality level, equals better music.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
On the other hand remember not to go to
extremes, and that sometimes some dofus somewhere will just encode a
92kbps .wma file to FLAC and call it lossless. So be careful.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
My advice is if you have a song that
you like that is low quality, get a new version. You can use MusicIP
or Encspot to find these low quality songs.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Gain and clipping</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Gain is how much louder or lower you
play a sound. It's like pre-applied volume. Clipping is what happens
when you try to ouput a signal higher than what is supported by the
system. It just maxes out the ability of the system to produce sound.
It's really bad for encoding and it sounds really bad in decoding.
There's a few ways to deal with this.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
ReplayGain is the best. This just finds
out what the volume of the track is, and the necessary gain to avoid
clipping. Then it adds that value to the metadata and any player that
supports ReplayGain won't clip the song.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
The bad side? Most hardware players
don't support replaygain :(</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
So you may consider using something
such as Mp3Gain to actually apply the gain directly to the music
data.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
The main advantages of this process?
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
- Clipping sounds bad, so this will
make your music sound better.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
- Your songs will now all have the same
volume. You wont need to adjust the volume dial anymore (or use other
any auto-volume adjusting features).</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Now that we have covered mostly
everything, it's time to debate this a bit. If I had to give an
advice, I wouldn't recommend this to you. It's much easier to delete
what you have and just get a full artist discography from the
internet and find out that most of it is already organized and of
good quality. But truth be told, not everyone knows this stuff, so
even the stuff you get from the web won't be well organized. Plus, if
you want the stuff that is rare, you won't be so lucky.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Also it's not very convenient to this
to a large unorganized collection.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Now it's fashionable to use streaming
services instead of having a collection. If you ask me what I think
about them, I think they're great, but they trap you in them, don't
forget it.</div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgC1EeZR6kLBRFY2wjZUvJdgjJrvbNsICz0pY8DmeObHzKdrvRwmM3UoXM4NQ6wm08xvBUddkAqpxfjlvB-Q6gQ2psGBUo78yqSwMWVUIS5CswFxmpTt1UfwdG4qh_S2wV32IXIc2N9lhk/s1600/LeagueTitle.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="164" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgC1EeZR6kLBRFY2wjZUvJdgjJrvbNsICz0pY8DmeObHzKdrvRwmM3UoXM4NQ6wm08xvBUddkAqpxfjlvB-Q6gQ2psGBUo78yqSwMWVUIS5CswFxmpTt1UfwdG4qh_S2wV32IXIc2N9lhk/s320/LeagueTitle.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: x-large;">I</span> started playing this game mid 2010. Liking to experiment, I had the plan to buy all third level runes, so I could make some weird builds. I don't play enough for this plan, so I considered buying the IP boosts, so I could buy more runes. Here's why I didn't do it.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
There are two currencies inside LoL. One you can get by playing, the other you can get by paying. IP and RP, respectively.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
There is a direct translation between RP and currency (dollar, euro, etc). There are a few things you can only buy with Riot Points (RP) and some things you can only buy with IP. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
There are some things you can purchase with both RP and IP, hence a worth translation between them.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
First of all, IP is gained per game. Quickly looking at my match history, in 10 games the average is 93IP per game. Being generous and round, it averages 100IP per game. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
You can buy, at the best price, 9300IP for 50€. That means you get at best 186IP per euro.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Looking at the champion list, which you can buy either with RP or IP, you get an average of 4.6 RP per IP.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
IP Boosts, double the amount of IP you get per game, so instead of an average 100IP, you would get 200IP per game.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="color: #38761d;">Now that we have these values, let's look at the IP boosts. We'll only look at the best value ones.</span></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>The 50wins boost</b>, costs 2560RP. This means that you would get an 50*100IP with this boost. So you are trading 5000IP for 2560RP, at the ratio of 2RP per IP. Which is less than half of what RP is worth, when buying champions. <u>A bad deal. If you use IP gained this way to buy champions you are losing more than half its worth.</u> You should really just use the RP to buy the champion and be done with it.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>The 30days boost</b>, costs 3490RP. The IP you can get with this is limited. Assuming a League of Legends game, averages 30minutes. 3490RP, at the ratio you can buy champions with, translates into 3490*4.6IP = 16054IP. So you have to win this much IP playing games, just to break even. At 100IP per game, this means 160games, and only then you would start to profit from this boost. During the 30day period, <u>this means you have to play 6 games a day, just to get some benefit from this boost</u>.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Remember, I was generous with these values, and went for the best ratios. Any other choice would worsen the conditions. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>So what to do?</b> </div>
<ol style="text-align: justify;">
<li>Buy champions with RP not IP, and try to only buy them when they are on promotion;</li>
<li>IP is for buying things that only IP can buy, period. Do it another way and it's really not to your advantage; </li>
<li>If you want to take a boost do so. If you play more than 2 games a day, take the 30days boost. But spend all that IP on runes (see 1.)</li>
</ol>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8CBrmXf6R0MrzwoNpJ5CdCp22RS5qWOzOOfiY8hQ_lhqTubYCoI_llHIX3n4E0te85gaGSbQI83YAAHxN22ZGUp7QM05Cdc0QWVsQ1iwJQFTxxndadKjBtnwirX-rshaz14RnzcpUGOo/s1600/LeagueTitle.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="164" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8CBrmXf6R0MrzwoNpJ5CdCp22RS5qWOzOOfiY8hQ_lhqTubYCoI_llHIX3n4E0te85gaGSbQI83YAAHxN22ZGUp7QM05Cdc0QWVsQ1iwJQFTxxndadKjBtnwirX-rshaz14RnzcpUGOo/s320/LeagueTitle.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: x-large;">W</span>hen playing solo queue ranked games in League, if you are the first player of your team, you get to ban characters from the game, based on yours and your teammates perception of those characters value.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I, on the other hand, am not in favor of banning characters by perception. The logical action would be to ban characters with the highest win ratio, such as Rumble or Singed.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
On the other hand, those characters aren't often picked, and a ban on them might prove useless. So what you really want is to ban characters that have the highest probability of being picked AND winning.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
First you figure out how likely that character is to be picked, based on the games that it isn't banned. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>P(beingPicked) = %games / (100 - %bans) </b> </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And then:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b> P(being picked and winning) = P(beingPicked) * P(winning)</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And you get this ban-worthy Tier list:</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0kYhcoh-4Y_MxR1K1rolYhl2an-p2vtulWVfkl7fStQNU82yd4aMtEgpVcJOF1H10Q3hThYGuC8xBGlGPPPODzUZedp0BF7ylKCZPjHNgsk_jUsEiookDm1cfiHuJFBg2gFN9v-COZdY/s1600/top30TierTable.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="271" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0kYhcoh-4Y_MxR1K1rolYhl2an-p2vtulWVfkl7fStQNU82yd4aMtEgpVcJOF1H10Q3hThYGuC8xBGlGPPPODzUZedp0BF7ylKCZPjHNgsk_jUsEiookDm1cfiHuJFBg2gFN9v-COZdY/s400/top30TierTable.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: right;">
data retrieved from <a href="http://www.lolking.net/charts" target="_blank">LolKing </a>on 2013-02-05</div>
<ul>
<li><b>Popularity</b>: % of games played;</li>
<li><b>Win Rate</b>: % of games played won;</li>
<li><b>Ban Rate</b>: % of games banned;</li>
<li><b>AdjGames</b>: % of games played when not banned;</li>
<li><b>PickedAndWin</b>: probability of being picked and winning</li>
<li><b>PerceivedTier</b>: tier based on banned games;</li>
<li><b>Tier</b>: tier based on PickedAndWin probability;</li>
<li><b>TierDiff</b>: difference between Perceived Tier and tier.</li>
</ul>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As you can see there is quite a difference between what actually wins games and what people ban. On the other hand, judging by values in TierDiff, you can see that not many champions are overestimated, and when so, not by much. But, when talking about underestimating champions, you can look at Taric, the number one Tier character right now, Graves, Leona, Sona and Lux and clearly see that these champions' worth is underestimated. So, if you want to be a trickster you should play these.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
If you just want to ban the strong ones, you should go for the top tier ones, that are not banned often: Taric, Ezreal, Miss Fortune, Caitlyn, Nunu, etc. All of these are strong game-winning choices that should be banned more.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This is just something to base decisions on. It doesn't account for <a href="http://www.leagueofstats.com/champions/synergies" target="_blank">synergies</a>, or <a href="http://www.lolking.net/charts?region=all&league=silver&type=top-lane-matchup&range=daily" target="_blank">counters</a>. It is also a bit flawed because it is supposedly sampling all ranked games, not just the good ones, like the ones in Silver+ leagues. On a math level I believe this view is pretty strong, tho. </div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

BBC made a TV show model called something like "Greatest People of All Time". I saw the Portuguese version on Youtube. The playlist is <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYqWziMrk0U&list=PLB58DAD35FE4DE0AE">here</a>.<br />
<br />
So, as I understood it, a bunch of popular intellectuals nominated 100 of these Portuguese historical figures. Then it got somehow narrowed down to 10, and finally, those 10 were voted on by national popular vote (for a small phone fee ;)<br />
<br />
<br />
Anyway, I watched it all attentively, learned a lot about those guys, a lot of it opposite to what was taught in school, and saw that if one thing their personalities were strongly defined.<br />
<br />
So it became somewhat easy to give a Masquerade clan to each of these guys.<br />
<br />
<span class="fsl">The Masquerade Clan of the 10 Greatest Portuguese (chronological order):</span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /><span style="color: #38761d; font-size: small;">1. Tintin - <b>Mr. Oliveira da Figueira</b></span></span><br />
<br />
<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhV1gs3idEr2fk21thzCY-sLBP_7VyFYC1x6NzJxjVvYrihXTr0_ypv9NNCY5MVR8oMMItBvs_ELKTVbC6WdGRUxKvXN_TR5EXDeXCNPXB83yQfQ8QvDM3YYWfapGqixl3ryFo4OycALlw/s1600/tintin3.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhV1gs3idEr2fk21thzCY-sLBP_7VyFYC1x6NzJxjVvYrihXTr0_ypv9NNCY5MVR8oMMItBvs_ELKTVbC6WdGRUxKvXN_TR5EXDeXCNPXB83yQfQ8QvDM3YYWfapGqixl3ryFo4OycALlw/s1600/tintin3.png" /></a></div>
The Tintin comic books have a huge international profile, and inside them, you can find portrayed: Mr. Oliveira da Figueira .<br />
<br />
For a start, the name basically means Mr. OliveTree of the FigTree, and although both are common last names in Portugal, it seems that the author wasn't randomly picking names. So, Mr. FruitTree, I mean, Mr. Oliveira has a few appearances throughout the series, and I'll try to iconize them in a few images. They are in Portuguese, but I'll translate for your personal entertainment.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgloqWoHfGlAvlBOqFFunKDffBgwhNcj0AULMhP3mqoP6Yjb7Ox2sgCflM4sma4zDXJNTRqfCj1EryHQd8Qj9I9Pcu6nZkgx4PlFq5ViPhyphenhyphen1sOYYxxnuJrySfbwt6t88_rmAZY5cp75izQ/s1600/tintin1.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="219" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgloqWoHfGlAvlBOqFFunKDffBgwhNcj0AULMhP3mqoP6Yjb7Ox2sgCflM4sma4zDXJNTRqfCj1EryHQd8Qj9I9Pcu6nZkgx4PlFq5ViPhyphenhyphen1sOYYxxnuJrySfbwt6t88_rmAZY5cp75izQ/s320/tintin1.png" width="320" /></a></div>
Here, in Mr. Oliveira first appearance: Tintin, aboard a ship is introduced by the captain to a fellow passenger, a certain sir from Lisbon, Portugal. <br />
<br />
Without any conversation, the Portuguese immediately jumps into the occasion by presenting Tintin with several opportunity items, like ties.<br />
<br />
A beautiful tie that matches Tintin skin color, he says. Genuine swords from Toledo, Spain, and as a gift he'll throw in a watch and a toothbrush. After a while Tintin goes away congratulating himself for not buying anything useless. He says "you always buy a lot of useless stuff from people like that". He's still loaded with junk, just doesn't realize it.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-KK2eF7lW5uzy4u6uG0z9TKA2nFzTyKBb_BcemlpZmtdebfaPHnym-KgIY70-PhsugZC06Dyq1IslzLBYwcYt32SQ3cizhTQP3r2zOaQvJHFxnbBrRPZyVvOcvfhbbQoSiwYQKw0g0s0/s1600/tintin2.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-KK2eF7lW5uzy4u6uG0z9TKA2nFzTyKBb_BcemlpZmtdebfaPHnym-KgIY70-PhsugZC06Dyq1IslzLBYwcYt32SQ3cizhTQP3r2zOaQvJHFxnbBrRPZyVvOcvfhbbQoSiwYQKw0g0s0/s320/tintin2.png" width="234" /></a></div>
<br />
Mr. Oliveira sets shop in the middle of the desert. Tintin thinks it wont be successful, but Mr Oliveira set up in high ground and brought a megaphone system. Immediately a lot of people come to buy things, mostly things that they don't need.<br />
<br />
He explains to Tintin, that the operation was a success, and even better, that his clients will be back.<br />
<br />
One of them comes back complaining about the horrible food, soap bar, that was sold to him, pledging revenge.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEju0hxmbYK1aZd13WHulOSBxjenB2i96Bm_ml-j9IW7PECeGhKYD7e-p3JeGlD8c03vR3j_R2exa0etlqq80IMTHCs2BnL4nR3rzduL07agDp2VCe9rgiE6_nazTiA1pUCbx8dm4gqpvD0/s1600/tintin4.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="218" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEju0hxmbYK1aZd13WHulOSBxjenB2i96Bm_ml-j9IW7PECeGhKYD7e-p3JeGlD8c03vR3j_R2exa0etlqq80IMTHCs2BnL4nR3rzduL07agDp2VCe9rgiE6_nazTiA1pUCbx8dm4gqpvD0/s320/tintin4.png" width="320" /></a></div>
On another story, Tintin travels again to Mesopotamian parts, and sees Mr. Oliveira in a local market.<br />
<br />
He recognizes Mr. Oliveira salesman skills: "Twisted man, always the same, he sold him a pair of roller skates".<br />
<br />
Selling roller skates in a sand covered town, is of course his trademark move.<br />
<br />
He recognizes Tintin, and immediately asks him to join him in a glass of Portuguese wine to celebrate their reunion.<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjurhxwQdwdWUA8vVmmo5AqTc49QsLJPFodjq5YKGJu8pLeip6ydHCjpDY020zmt5O78cFwMfKm8QmwCCZUNxq3jVnYe3x3Ij8BfrVIqsIr2t7pByWo2wSG9wNyOgCGutx94sZGinY14kM/s1600/tintin5.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjurhxwQdwdWUA8vVmmo5AqTc49QsLJPFodjq5YKGJu8pLeip6ydHCjpDY020zmt5O78cFwMfKm8QmwCCZUNxq3jVnYe3x3Ij8BfrVIqsIr2t7pByWo2wSG9wNyOgCGutx94sZGinY14kM/s1600/tintin5.png" /></a> Here, Mr. Olveira entertains a group of man with a very sad story, about the disgraces of a certain family. Of course the story is completely fabricated on the spot, but is nonetheless enough to make the men burst into tears.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>Conclusion:</b> In this stereotype, Portuguese are gifted merchants and men of the world, that without any evil intent push events towards their favor. No one needs a pair of roller skates in a desert town and no one sets up store in the desert. Yet he makes these happen. Mr Oliveira is also very very theatrical in his poses and speech. but even through all the personality twists, you can easily see that he's an alright guy. I would say it's actually quite representative of last century's middle class Portuguese persona. Maybe less today, but still very well done.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div style="color: #38761d;">
2. Asterix - <b>Lusitanus</b></div>
<br />
Another famous comic. In one of the more recent volumes, it portrays a Lusitanus roman slave: a member of the Lusitani tribe that lived in the western part of the Iberian peninsula. Whether questionable if Lusitani and Portuguese are synonyms, make no mistake about the authors intentions, this guy is supposed to depict a guy from Portugal.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRU1DYUq3ah2xcaPdDeeZyTQ_lvf9JgVHqsWTfYtYLX3F-KEkyNejc7oJvM-7Ro51DozPMGgqcWhqG1MrVLwe7BWp6pQyUmNx7uEETQa73rXu4g_t16GOJHzzVBlJCuIQME5j8JvEWNPs/s1600/1.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="100" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRU1DYUq3ah2xcaPdDeeZyTQ_lvf9JgVHqsWTfYtYLX3F-KEkyNejc7oJvM-7Ro51DozPMGgqcWhqG1MrVLwe7BWp6pQyUmNx7uEETQa73rXu4g_t16GOJHzzVBlJCuIQME5j8JvEWNPs/s320/1.png" width="320" /></a></div>
Each of the free slaves states their intended destination. The Portuguese guy is the short guy.<br />
<br />
Their leader asks them to take turns speaking.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHGllo9slTpI28tI_k6l4GWSeUppzTLsGiS2MFRKHQ7JjsZTktWhkdCUPkTYhC1gIyBCxU8jhe4SNHbHYYhBQ6Rv-z-n1DGyEcmxyn40vg-Q6KUosVap_JL72plxVtz69DG1_8CAiUGTI/s1600/2.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="151" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHGllo9slTpI28tI_k6l4GWSeUppzTLsGiS2MFRKHQ7JjsZTktWhkdCUPkTYhC1gIyBCxU8jhe4SNHbHYYhBQ6Rv-z-n1DGyEcmxyn40vg-Q6KUosVap_JL72plxVtz69DG1_8CAiUGTI/s320/2.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The Spanish guy suggests Spain, and immediately the Portuguese suggests them to go to Portugal.<br />
<br />
All this guy does is this. And from it you can read quite a bit.<br />
<br />
<br />
Conclusion: Portuguese are short, dark haired, and have a shared sibling-like rivalry with Spanish people. Again, not a false stereotype. Not entirely accurate, but good.<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div style="color: #38761d;">
<span style="font-size: x-large;">3</span><span style="font-size: x-large;">.</span> Converter para .wav</div>
<br />
<br />
Para evitar clipping: Abre-se ou volta-se a abrir o ficheiro no <b>Foobar</b>, e aplica-se o <i>TrackGain</i>, com o <i>right click</i> menu.<br />
<br />
<br />
Em seguida faz-se<i> right click</i> novamente no ficheiro e selecciona-se a opção para converter.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
No mesmo menu, nas opções de <i>Processing</i>, deve-se selecionar que se quer aplicar o filtro DSP <i>"Advanced Limiter"</i> e a opção <i>Track ReplayGain preventing clipping</i> .<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="color: #38761d;">
<span style="font-size: x-large;">4.</span> Configurar o<b> Dancing Monkeys</b> e criar os passos</div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<ol style="color: #274e13;">
<li><span style="font-size: small;"><b>abrir ficheiro no Foobar, e aplicar ReplayGain</b></span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: small;"><b>configurar o Dancing Monkeys</b></span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: small;"><b>adicionar o .wav resultante no DancingMonkeys e gerar os passos</b></span></li>
</ol>
<span style="font-size: small;"><b> </b></span><b> </b><br />
<b><span style="font-size: large;">Notas:</span></b><br />
<ul>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoKv6a0d9BIW3iUda5yuE19zaHFiCKTLbFv3YvqF8TByeuQHgV7ssUrXYxhi_Ptn4V4NzpANtzUvm5KjN1Bc6pUzY-TTgMjdh5AfvrX9csjeFTkFDT3QaOSHFJgCN3hkKEPpv3inTQAdQ/s1600/mikeheadphones1%255B1%255D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="254" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoKv6a0d9BIW3iUda5yuE19zaHFiCKTLbFv3YvqF8TByeuQHgV7ssUrXYxhi_Ptn4V4NzpANtzUvm5KjN1Bc6pUzY-TTgMjdh5AfvrX9csjeFTkFDT3QaOSHFJgCN3hkKEPpv3inTQAdQ/s320/mikeheadphones1%255B1%255D.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="http://radioconnection.com/RADIO-STOCK/mikeheadphones.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a><span style="font-size: x-large;">I</span>f you are a gamer or something of the like and you would like to setup a quick online radio, for you and your friends to enjoy the same music while playing, this is the tutorial for you.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
If you want to play music for people on Teamspeak or something, just keep reading.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
After trying several tools, I came to the conclusion that presently, the easiest way to setup an online radio is by using the Shoutcast + Winamp combo.<span style="font-size: large;"> </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br /></div>
<div style="color: #274e13;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Install Winamp</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
First, get and install the latest <a href="http://www.winamp.com/">Winamp</a> .</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="color: #274e13;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Install Shoutcast</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Now here comes the catch: the latest Shoucast does not bring a graphic interface. If you want to do this easily, and not have to mess around in files, get an older version. You can get it around the web. Search for <b>Shoutcast 1 9 8</b> . Try this download <a href="http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Servers/WEB-Servers/SHOUTcast-Server.shtml">link</a> first, it's where I got it.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Install it. Shoutcast is ready to broadcast to port 8000. No configuration required. Easy so far.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="color: #274e13;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Install Shoutcast DSP</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Finally, you will need to install the Shoucast DSP for Winamp, for the two, Winamp and Shoutcast, to communicate. Again, an older version is better here, for compatibility purposes and for better integrated mp3 support.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I used version 1.90, so search the internet for <b>Shoutcast DSP 1 9 0</b>. Try this download <a href="http://www.4shared.com/file/fLXYjRHX/shoutcast-dsp-1-9-0-windows.html">link</a> first.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Install the DSP. Open winamp and the DSP menu should appear. If not, find it inside Winamp options.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="color: #274e13;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Using it</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
All you have to do is to put files playing on winamp, and tell your friends to open the address on their media player. Most players will be able to do this easily.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
For example, put a playlist playing, tell them to open http://yourIP:8000 .</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In some cases the default 8000 port will not work, so change that in the Shoutcast settings.</div>
<a name='more'></a><div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
To find out your IP visit this link <a href="http://www.whatsmyip.org/">http://www.whatsmyip.org/</a> and replace it in the previous example.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
If you have a router you will probably need to open the 8000 port to accept connections to the radio.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And that's it.<span style="font-size: small;"> <b>Again in easy steps:</b></span></div>
<ol style="color: #274e13;">
<li><b>Install Winamp</b></li>
<li><b>Install Shoutcast 1.9.8</b></li>
<li><b>Install Shoutcast DSP 1.9.0</b></li>
<li><b>Open port 8000 (may not be necessary) </b></li>
<li><b>Play files in winamp and give out your IP address </b></li>
</ol>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Other versions will work, but I don't guarantee any ease. This tutorial is all about easy.</div>
<div style="color: #274e13;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #274e13; font-size: large;"><b>Some extra tips:</b></span> </div>
<ul style="text-align: justify;">
<li>you can configure the DSP to broadacast in higher quality. This option is on the encoder tab. In gaming this means you will get higher pings, so you have to be experimental here;</li>
<li>if you want to use another port you need to click on <b>Edit config</b> in Shoutcast and find and change the port number there;</li>
<li>it is good practice to listen to your own radio. If there are problems, you will know. So mute your Winamp player and open another player and listen to your own radio there. Your default address will be http://localhost:8000;</li>
<li>your IP is probably not static, so this means your IP address will change, and so you will have to provide people with your new radio address, probably at least once a day. To avoid this, find out about Dynamic Dns . You can use it to give your computer a permanent address. Here's a good one: <a href="http://dyn.com/dns">http://dyn.com/dns</a>/ .</li>
</ul>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
That's all. Hope it was helpful.</div>

<br />
Trata.se de <b>Final Fantasy 7 Remix</b>, uma colecção de <i>mods </i>para a versão PC do jogo clássico Final Fantasy 7.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
É uma óptima maneira de revisitar este clássico, aproveitando a nova e fresca perspectiva.fullmooninuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04655710914334599493noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2990223892208450985.post-9232759558215030682010-09-08T21:38:00.003+01:002011-09-24T08:16:01.112+01:00Filename Universal Translator - previewThe download is in the more recent post: <a href="http://fullmooninu.blogspot.com/2011/09/fullmooninu-filename-translator-v07.html">here </a><br />
<br />
If you are <b>a fan of asian things</b> like me, you probably have your computer filled with files with foreign names. Some musics from the older days that you have absolutely no idea what are about or who the artist is ?<br />
<br />
Some interesting screenshots you got around the place, with some nice unreadable korean names?<br />
<br />
Yeah, sometimes, software will even refuse to open these. Although this is becoming less of a problem, as unicode support becomes universal, it's still nice to know that it can be done.<br />
<br />
So, i went ahead and coded a prototype that does exactly this: presenting, unamed project: Filename Universal Translator!<br />
<br />
<img alt="http://fc00.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2010/251/b/a/filename_translator_by_fullmooninu-d2yawjr.png" src="http://fc00.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2010/251/b/a/filename_translator_by_fullmooninu-d2yawjr.png" width="100%" /><br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a>So, bye bye chinese filenames that <b>MusicIP music player </b>doesn't like and refuses to open.<br />
<br />
I can finally listen to all the crappy chinesepop I want to. Now I know for sure that these musics really are about what they sound like. If the artist is screaming <i><b>oh my pleety girl!</b></i> on top of his lungs, the music is probably called "the beautiful girl in my heart".mp3 or something similar.<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>Yes, confirmation at last!</b></div>
<br />
Anyway, I started out a bit unmotivated by the advices that said it couldn't be done, so support is appreciated.<br />
I do it for the fans!! -_-<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<img alt="http://fc00.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2010/251/b/a/filename_translator_by_fullmooninu-d2yawjr.png" src="http://fc00.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2010/251/b/a/filename_translator_by_fullmooninu-d2yawjr.png" width="100%" /><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />

<b> </b></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
O <i>Rapidshare </i>e seus irmãos , e especialmente os <i>torrents </i>facilitam o acesso a todo o género de downloads.<br />
<br />
<ol>
</ol>
<br />
<b>Nota</b>: Quando digo "<i>comprar coisas aos autores</i>" refiro-me a todo o género de mercadoria baseada numa série.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNvCDaTOshcUrPp-0OhDLFV8_orDpa8LEaIKXVNo9veUSwLiwEATI_ckmwAE4UYjhO87-j2VIqsSDrbEHE6gru5ECIX7A6vfB2bJ9hFgLtLq2-KeAT0YZ7DAD7Khk6zQ-DKoMZykfhLHg/s1600/816355003654%255B1%255D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNvCDaTOshcUrPp-0OhDLFV8_orDpa8LEaIKXVNo9veUSwLiwEATI_ckmwAE4UYjhO87-j2VIqsSDrbEHE6gru5ECIX7A6vfB2bJ9hFgLtLq2-KeAT0YZ7DAD7Khk6zQ-DKoMZykfhLHg/s200/816355003654%255B1%255D.jpg" width="162" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Continuando a história:<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">
<br /></div>
<h4 style="background-color: white; color: #3d85c6; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; font-weight: normal;">
<br />
<ol>
</ol>
<br />
<br />
Ora bem, agora o problema.
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
Existem e vão aparecendo novos programas dedicados à leitura de mangas.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Aqui um screenshot do MangaMeeya versão 2.4 Beta:</div>
<br />

<br />
<br />
<ul>
</ul>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Boa leitura!<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">
A Hungarian Catholic priest who spreads God's word from a skateboard has become an internet sensation.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
A <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1WACuPmOro&feature=related">video </a>of the Reverend Zoltan Lendvai, 45, in action has attracted almost 170,000 hits on YouTube.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The video, Funny Priest Skateboarding, shows Father Lendvai, clad in full clerical garb, displaying his moves.</div>
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
It is not clear whether he has mastered the nose-grind or the kick-flip, but his skills have helped attract young people to his church.<br />
<br />
Father Lendvai, whose first board bore the papal coat of arms, believes skateboarding can pave the way to God for young people.<br />
<br />
He says his distinctive method of spreading the word on wheels is inspired by Saint John Bosco. The 19th century Italian priest and teacher dedicated his life to improving the lot of poor young people, using games as part of their education.<br />
<br />
"Many times I have felt that this is the way I can bring many people a bit closer to Jesus," Father Lendvai, who learned to skateboard at the age of 14 at school, told Reuters news agency.<br />
<br />
However, it was not until he started to serve as a priest that he realised the switch stance and the shove-it might be more effective than the sermon in turning young people towards the church.<br />
<br />
Three teenage boys who had never attended church before started coming regularly after he showed off his skateboard tricks, said Father Lendvai, who lives and preaches in Redics, a small village on Hungary's border with Slovenia.<br />
<br />
However, his four-wheeled ministry does not come cheap: he has given away at least six skateboards to his young parishioners.<br />

<br />
A user would rate music, and indy.tv would try to play stuff he/she liked. This was similar to last.fm and a multitude of other more recent services.<br />
<br />
Well, I found out some awesome music through that service, and I haven't seen these bands resurface, so I decided to start uploading videos to youtube with these songs that used to be available on Indy.tv.<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">My taste is not, by far, universal. But for me these are memorable songs, so I'm going to hope someone out there discovers them through this effort.</div><br />
